The City National Bank Building on North Orange Avenue in Orlando recently became Central Florida's first renovation to earn a gold-level environmental certification from the United States Green Building Council.

Key features include bringing daylight into 75 percent of the building, recycling 90 percent of demolition materials, using reflective roofing materials, and using permeable concrete for the parking lot.

"The team accepted the challenge to create an environmentally responsible, energy efficient building while maintaining the highest level of design for the renovation of an existing structure," says Jorge Gonzalez, president of City National Bank.

Sullivan Properties Inc. developed the project and OB+ Architecture Inc. designed it. Lamm and Co. Partners was the general contractor. Other contractors included: MEI Civil, Eiermann Engineering, Alex Piper electrical engineers and Two Trails Inc. environmental consultants.
